In this thrilling tale, the Viking chief Timandahaf is desperate to find a "Champion of Fear" to make his tribe invincible.Believing that fear grants the ability to fly, he sends his daughter Abba and the bumbling Olaf on a mission to find such a champion in Gaul. Meanwhile, in the Gaulish village, Chief Vitalstatistix's nephew, Justforkix, arrives to be trained as a warrior. However, Justforkix is more interested in technology, dancing, and vegetarianism than in battle.

Asterix and Obelix are tasked with training him, but their efforts seem futile. When the Vikings kidnap Justforkix, believing him to be the Champion of Fear, Asterix and Obelix embark on a daring rescue mission. Along the way, Justforkix discovers that true courage comes from overcoming one's fears.
